It's one of the darkest moments from Marty as a character where he doesn't have hope that it'll actually work. It was cut, intercut with a scene that's not played for the last two all. So like, like, maybe it's not funny anymore. I get in the end that they accept responsibility for the way they've never done this. Everybody would have lived a little bit.
