The Root Cause of the Lack of Diversity

There's got to be some kind of root cause to the lack of diversity. So why is it, for example, that you have relatively few female engineering students? Is engineering someone not an attractive career for females in South Africa in 2022? If it's just a personal choice on their part, well, then maybe that's just the way it falls out and we ought to do nothing about it. On the other hand, if girls are being fed the message that they can't be engineers...then I think what we need to address that so that we open up opportunities. That would seem to me to be a more reasonable approach to that kind of problem.
