It's easier to spread capitalism than it is democracy. It's very hard to influence another country's political system and particularly a country like Russia or China but let's take Russia which has a centuries old tradition of autocratic rule. The US certainly tried in the 1990s when Boris Yeltsin was president to encourage the spread of democracy there. We have to understand the limits of our own influence.
