I like everybody because I have a very low opinion of the human race. Every single person I've ever met was morally perverse, racked with shame and terrified of having the ugliness of their secret self exposed. So knowing that and kind of liking people in the mess of who they are has two surprising effects on you. One is you stop worrying about people's personal and private failings and picadillos. You don't worry about their laziness, their greed, their self-deceptions. We're all sinful. And while not one of us is worthy to pass judgment on another man's spirit because we're also messed up, all of us are worthy of protection from each other
