The Abnegation of the Body
Wisdom is the acquisition of sure, permanent and eternal knowledge. The access to that is through its contemplative, its reason. Any time the body gets involved, it distracts you from the pursuit of wisdom. We're servants of the gods. The gods have us this life. It would be bad if we were to just be like ascetic cynics. I think west was asting the focus on the contemplative life to the practical virtues.
