The History of the Illyrian Empire
Illyrian pirates had preyed upon Italian traders sailing in the Adriatic for quite some time, which was annoying but an expected outcome of doing business in the area. Polybius and Appian claim that the Roman Senate agreed to play peacemaker when a city under siege by the Illyrians sent an embassy requesting their aid. In what Polybius claims to be an act of womanish petulance, the furious Queen ordered the murder of the outspoken brother,. leaving the remaining ambassador to flee back to Rome.
