In a funny sort of way in culture we assume that the designer of the technology has full agency over how it's created. I'm actually not the first person to postulate this thesis. The first time that it entered my head was when I was readingThis wonderful book by George Dyson called Touring's Cathedral. Towards the end of this book he talks about a visit that he made to Google where he got a tour of the data center with thousands of servers.
