The Holocaust Memorial
There is a danger that without memorials like this, we can forget that at least six million Jews in Europe were rounded up and murdered by the Nazi regime. There's always a fear that neo-Nazis or others could put swastikas on it, that sort of thing, and deface this whole memory. I'll tell you the type of memorialization that touches me most: It's when you individualize it. And so all across Berlin, the residential areas, you stumble across these plaques, these tiny little brass plates in the pavement.
