The myth of the dream job is a pretty excellent way to distract us from the cognitive dissonance associated with maybe that deeper acknowledgement that work doesn't really have to be the center of our days and of our lives. It's kind of unnatural we probably want to be doing other things rather than being cooped up in an office. Our careers determine so much of our identity it's going to make us feel better about how much time we're devoting to these tasks. The career is a huge determinant of our identity so we want to choose the right one.
