The US Military Intervention in Haiti
By 1915, the United States Marines have invaded Haiti under the guise of trying to protect the region from communism. Their vision is to invade Haiti, bring it under United States control and re impose slavery. It isn't until after as you pointed out the formal diplomat that black activists agitate for about 60 years try to convince the United States to formally recognize Haiti. But when they do, they do it with such an eye and a vision towards US imperialism that formally recognizing Haiti then just exposes Haiti to invasion and occupation by the United States.
