The Hiddenism of Epicurus

Epicurus' hiddenism is supposed to go along with this kind of empiricist attitude. But it might be in some tension with one of the things Epicurus is most notorious for saying which is that the greatest pleasure would just be the absence of pain. So if that's a plausible empirical thought then indeed they do have some work to do persuading me that really the state of being pain free is as good as it gets.
