The Phonics of WB
There are various rules for stress. In addition to stress, there is tone, which is determined entirely by the vowel type. Many of the diphthongs are the places where the contour tones happen. Weird phonation types cause the tone change as well. So breathy voice or creaky voice or roticism change these as well.
