The Illusions of Glamour
Every unironic evocation of the american dream is an exercise in glamour. Illusions can be powerful and even self-fulfilling, both in grand and smaller ways. Having this somewhat illusory idea of bettering yourself leads people to do things that are positive for the broader society. But you can also get, i think it does, manifest itself in various social causes,. some of which has positive results and some of which have negative results.
