On the surface, it looks like this is a move to help bankers get more money. But employers actually end up paying a higher base salary because they're not allowed to give a more generous bonus. It isn't that any of the bankers got paid less when their bonuses were being capped. That didn't happen. They've just shuffled things round to make it look like it fitted the law. Nothing has done more harm to the banking sector in the u k. than brexet - thousands of jobs have moved to frankfort and paris. Those jobs are never coming back, no matter how much the bonuses go up.
