What Is the Merit of Global Catastrophic Risk?
Many people find reassuring about thinking about global catastrophic risks, such as an astroid impact. But even if the chance is low, given enough time, it's bound to happen. Catastrophic risks are almost all low probability events. The greater the damage a possible event will cause, the lower the probability of that event. If you go on long enough, it will happen, and the consequence of that happening is the end of everything.
