The History of Charlatin Grafting
The method is called charlatin grafting, and is done by taking a stock of suitable size. The Ribston Pippin, which every Englishman will tell you is the best apple in the world, was a native of Ribston Park Yorkshire. Evelyn says in 1685, at Lord Clarendon's seat at Swallowfield, Berkshire, there is an orchard of 1,000 golden and other cider pippins. This apple is well known in this country, but not a favourite.
