Is It Possible That Lula's Will for a Middle Course in Foreign Relations Is an Issue?
Lula is clear about maintaining friendly ties with China, a huge trading partner for Brazil. But he wants to steer a middle course between China and the United States. Do you think that in the context of a deepening Cold War, Lula might be forced to choose by the US? I can't see that if Lula makes deals with China, as he certainly will, that that's going to get him into trouble at all,. And even working with Iran, his support for the Iranian government during his time in office before was a bit controversial; Bush didn't like it but Biden does.
