How to Hire a Good Code Breaker

Bletchley Park hired their first mathematician in 1938 Channing called piece twin he was just the first of several and we're all thinking about Alan Turing when we say mathematicians. The reason they came across Alan Turing is that the way they cast the net was to do well what any self respecting senior civil servant would have done in the late 1930s. Some of these people turned out to be unbelievably good some of them turned into great intelligence analysts sort of slightly different skill and some of them turn out to be completely useless but you know I think it's quite interesting, this bizarre completely random approach to recruitment certainly seemed to work for Bletchley park.
