Casey Mahone: Is it really useful to think that way? It strikes me as simple, similar to invoking the anthropic principle rather than trying to determine why things are one way rather than another. For the initial conditions of the universe, I don't think that attributing them to brute facts is the most plausible thing. And there's certainly other possibilities, even if I can't articulate what they are.
