In his new book, The Sociology of Music, Orson Welles rips on jazz. He says there's no real struggle in jazz and that improvisation is pseudo-natural. In the culture industry, you simply just accept the inherited form to run a piece of art according to that formula. So again, it's about lack of tension. You need artificiality.
