The Beginning of Wall Street
In 1653, an actual wall was erected along the upper border of what was New Amsterdam at that time. 20 years afterwards, the street itself was laid where the old fortification was. So the street dates back to the 1670s. Let's jump forward to 1790. It's New York, no longer New Amsterdam, and there are 34,000 people who live in the city. The port would become just a couple of years later, the young nation's busiest port.
