The Harms of Enabling Large Language Models
The US Department of Defense says that AI will be used to assist human decision makers. The critical question is, as John has already suggested, what about China and other adversaries? If you observe how AI plays chess, you realize that it thinks very differently from a human player. This is a weapon that is profoundly threatening, not just on the battlefield if we empower it to decide who lives and who dies but I think even more dangerously in our own civilian lives.
