There are essentially three things that i think keep us from really experiencing gratitude in our life. A sense of expectation, too much self-preoccupation and a sense of entitlement all contribute to the lack of appreciation we feel for what we have. In your book you read about one example where a woman came to you who was angry because her car had been locked up in the parking lot so she couldn't get out. Can you describe how you counselled her? Well, i gave her an exercise. And the exercise was to bake some cookies for the park lot attendant and give it to him the following day. That's the last thing she wanted to do. But he was extremely surprised
