The film was a renaissance of the growing up in the hood movie, right? It kind of got started with boys in the hood. You watch cane kill and it asks like, can you still care about him? Even though he wasn't virtuous enough to beat back the realities of where he grows up. He gets out of the car at the right time. And this society doesn't even try to do that. They take cane and they put cane in the middle of that.
