Why did the russians not just assume air superiority and control the skies from da one? We didn't see this. The only explanation is that they were given too little warning, which would fit the uncoordinated nature of the ground attack. They had almost no warning. You can't spin up an air force for complex strike operations in a couple of hours. And it may be that they just didn't have enough time.
