What Happened to the AMA?
Before Medicare was passed, for example, in 1965, the AMA was far, far more powerful. They were at every quarter of the U.S., which is one thing that made them so powerful. So they would tell physicians we're against health insurance. And also didn't want to have the market to organize because they thought that would make it too easy for the government to then step in.
