Ti Nationalism and the Burmese

Tiland was the only nation state in southeast asia not to have been directly colonized. Ti nationalism formed as an elite, top down project of the kings of tiland. The shan offer a very interesting contrast. They were subject to this ideological absorption by the ties because their scene as being ethnically similar. But on the other hand they wanted to resist and push back against that kind of absorption.
