The Importance of Friendship in Colonial America

In colonial America, the people who wrote about friendship with the greatest intensity were also individuals who seemed like most abandoned by their social worlds. And I think what I wanted to get at there is that in everyday life, the work of friendship is actually sometimes like work. That doesn't mean it's not worthwhile. It just means that those labors deserve recognition.
