The Importance of Public Domain Licenses
Richard Hips: I wanted a much more liberal license so people could just toss this into their application and not have to worry about it. He did not realize that there are a lot of jurisdictions in the world where it's difficult or impossible for someone to place their works in the public domain. Some companies started saying, hey, we need to buy a license anyway. And so we made this product available. We'll sell you a license for SQLite. That's one way that we have for making a little bit of money to fund continuing development.
