The Percolation Theory of Colonization
The idea that all life will once become sufficiently intelligent and able to go to other stars would make colonizing impossible. Could also be that the issues of travelling or communicating across space are so vast that no species really expands past their solar system. Travelling several light years, even to go to proxima centari, would take so long that we can't design a ship that could do that. What if you made it out of adamantium, from xmen?
