"Hard as nails" was a groundbreaking show in that it showed jobs that had never seen the light of day, literally. "Tough as nails" first pitched tough as nails in its original form to CBS in 2008. The head of scheduling at CBS loved the idea and gave Phil some development money so he could develop it.
