Female opossums, which are called jills, and males jacks, all have cloacas. A jill's double vadge grows a third shoot down which her tiny babies travel. Once the nipple is in a possum mouth, it gets long swells and sticks down their gullet. It's like a feeding tube made of a swollen nip until they're old enough to just bounce and hitch rides surfing on mamma's spine. They can lose up to forty percent of their body mass in the winter.
