Trial by Combat - The History of Duelling
In mediaeval scandinavia, one person could challenge another to a fightre ardless of that person's status in society. These hom gang were fought in a specific location known as a horem, or small island. The word for this scandinavian duel, this viking duel, is thought to have come from the old norse word for a small island, horm so holm gang means going to the holm. If blood was drawn, if one person was killed, or if someone ran out of the arena, they the hormgang. Like the trial by combat in mainland europe, it fell out of favor a bit earlier.
