Ad Tracking Is a Violation of the Spirit of Cookies

The advertising network was using cookies to track ads across multiple websites. Netscape had some 80% of the browser market. If they decided to disable the cookie they would basically be pulling the plug on it for the whole internet. A huge amount of money flowing into the web did come from this ad tracking model and scuttling the cookie would mean blowing up the whole system.
