The Importance of Muscle Mass in Aging
There's a large body of evidence that solely talks about strength in the aging population. But muscle mass doesn't necessarily matter because it's really been grouped as lean body mass. As you lose muscle, your calorie needs go down and your body fat goes up. Muscle secretes a whole host of what are called hormones or myocons which have a broad array of metabolic effects.
