The fate of particles depends on their charge. There are some places near a negatively charged black hole where electrons cannot go because of their negative charge. So protons will fall in and eventually get past the event horizon, but electrons will never reach it. In practice, this isn't that big a deal because most black holes don't have a lot of charge.
