As the scale of TikTok has grown and there's now 150 million Americans on the app, so has the collective understanding of how it could be used to be harmful to America. There are also the theoretical threat of TikTok manipulating elections just like we saw Russia do in 2016 through Facebook. So it seems that both parties understand the threat. What they share is a negative view toward TikTok, and this tracks a broader public opinion toward China.
