The northumbrians here did an excellent job of setting aside their pride and honestly assessing their own limitations and flaws. And even better, tostig actually had a long standing feud with morcar and his brother, edwin. So it was also a spit in the eye to tostig. Though by this point it's probably easier to list off who tastick didn't have a feud with. The good news is that earl edwin of mercia already had a good reason to be sympathetic to the northumbrian cause.
