If you put Descartes back in his time and place in his historical moment, he's writing in the 1600s. His philosophical method was really an urgent call for a new way that people across Europe could cooperate to arrive at truth. And of course Descartes had too simple minded an understanding of what nature is. But it's also clear that technology has advanced tremendously since his day,. more or less using the same method that he articulated.
