I think that the truth of it is that most of us under the wrong situations are capable of being assholes. Even though I might be able to find the assholes that were winners from a psychological standpoint, if you're in their orbit, it doesn't make a difference. There probably are situations where leaving people feeling demeaned and de-energized might be to your advantage.
