The Problems With the Mining Pool and the Machines
The mining pool is running stratum and then the machines are running stratum. The machine is just trying different nonsense until it finds a valid block. A little bit more complicated fact is that there's not just the nonce but there're additional fields in the block header to support a sick boost. So this is sort of like getting ready for the future. There are some tokens involved here, but I'll explain it later.
