For a certain set of people, smart people, Edison was like a living god. Not necessarily for people who valued inventing and getting to something first. And when they collected the polls, Edison's name rose right to the top next to names like Newton and Galileo. But if what you value is somebody who can invent on the scientific frontier and do extremely practical stuff then he could be very influential.
