Did the Japanese Go Down There Too?

The japanese are not really on heinan in earnest until february of 19 39. In that period, the nationalist forces are going to retreat from the coast of the island. They don't have a lot of success in the inland. What they are able to do is set up iron minds. And so again we see this sort of extractive approach to hinan. This is really the story that we keep coming back to, this idea of hinan as a very rich, a very fertile place from which so much can be extracted.
