Confucianism had influenced Chinese culture, and by reflex many other Asian cultures. The very idea of innovating and creating something new was often viewed negatively. A Chinese martial artist starting a new style could not claim that he created it. Lee encouraged individuals to question everything and find out for themselves. JKD more than being a new martial art style in the typical sense, it was more of a philosophical principle applied to martial arts.
