The Legacy of the Climbers
Climbers trained with backpacks that weighed 90 pounds. The average weight of their backpacks was 90 pounds. Those skis are seven feet long, seven foot hickory skis with, they did have steel edges at that point with these little fucking leather boots. I mean, can you imagine skiing with 90 pounds on your back in leather boots? It was insane. After the war, all this gear and clothing went into army surplus when there was an economic boom. And these guys are coming back and they didn't call it PTSD because they hadn't got there yet. It was shell shock.
