The Importance of European Identity
I was very pro-European. When Hugo Young was writing about the history of Britain and Europe, I was quite convinced by that kind of political story. But I didn't think I'd have said, if I'd been in Belgium or France or Germany, I feel really your opinion. So European identity, identification feels quite distant. In this sense, the British is just a bit more like the rest of the British, because not many white-bridged people feel very European Either.
