The Divorce Referendum

There was another referendum on divorce in 1995, and this is only nine years after it had been overwhelmingly rejected. Over the next decade or so came more and more stories of sexual abuse by the Catholic church. My mum was brought up as Catholic and in Kent, but I'll never forget her telling me a story about being made to wear wet knickers at primary school. And my mum or one of her brothers, I can't remember, told when there were eight that they might as well give up now, because they were already going to hell. God, it's incredible. This is in Kent, not in the middle of the world. It's incredible.
