South Korea and the Hunta
In 1961, ROK Army General Pakchung-hee led a group of officers in a coup that snuffed out the runaway democracy in South Korea. The new Hunta, which made Pakch dictator, shut down the National Assembly and outlawed any political opposition to the new regime. It announced a program of national renewal, a patriotic renaissance, anti-communism, and a strong, self-reliant South Korean economy. In first pictures from Seoul following the pre-dawn military coup that overthrew the South Korean government troops guard public buildings in the early hours of martial law proclaimed by the army hunter that took over the country.
