Orientalism is a book about the ways in which we think and act. In it, O'Neill argues that our cognitive systems are different from those that evaluate arguments. He says there's nothing flawed taking place when a person produces biased and lazy arguments because it saves cognitive labor. The ideas that, as you are alluding to, we are built to enter into have never been seen by most people until now.
