Is the Spirit a New Thing?

enthusiasm as a term names a specific phenomenon within religious history where you have a kind of carismatic outpouring of the spirit and an emphasis on it. How can we cultivate a stronger sense of the spirit's roll within our own lives and the lives of our churches, without becoming a prey to enthusiastic tendencies? I think that connection gives us a sort of tether or the doctrine of the spirit that prevents it from going off into these wild, wayward directions.
